Just Cause 4 - Game Trailer

The Just Cause 4 trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lfek7Kcq16g

The trailer for Just Cause 4 is a large cinematic trailer for an open-world game where you are a rebel fighting against a dictator and their regime. The game allows for the player to step away from the real world and therefore allows them to relax. The audiovisual promo itself does a very good job at promoting the game using actual gameplay and voiceovers. These are particularly useful and effective in the promotion of the game because it shows the target audience of the game and actual gameplay so that means that they can actually see the game and how it will look when it is being played.

The video itself makes the game look fun and exciting using lots of guns and violence and cinematic shots in the video. The camera work is all either cinematic shots of the game or actions and combat shots. This helps to promote the product because it makes the product appealing to a large, diverse target audience. The main character in the game is the same throughout the series of games so fans will know that the game will be good because that same character and rules are in the game. There are many large new aspects of the game that the trailer shows off e.g. the tornado. In most game trailers the game trailer will show off the new features of the game to create hype about the game.

The game also has a voice-over in the background showing off some of the story aspects to the game which adds depth and again another layer of interest to the trailer.

The music fits very well with the different shots e.g. the shots will change on the beat of the music creating a more effective looking and sounding product. The trailer uses a weather theme and the tornado and other weather have their own music. This is carried throughout not just the trailer but the entire game. Having themes throughout the whole of a product helps make the product more appealing to the target demographic and audience.

The Matrix Resurrections - Film Trailer

The trailer for this film uses a variety of shots - wide cinematic, close up and quick for action shots. The trailer uses a lot of large-scale CGI scenes. The trailer is entertaining to the audience because of all of the fast action-packed scenes that are included. The variety of the shots used really helps the watcher of the trailer be drawn into the video and creates interest in the product.

The trailer is very good at creating hype  and promoting the product. Iconography is an important part of these series of films. It provides visual cues as to the genre, plot or theme. There is iconography in this trailer with the green computer  code text and the use of the Agents characters,  There are also red and blue pills theme, this came from the first film.  this is a computer generated world. This is a sci fi action film.  They also do this through the use of large quirky exciting fonts and amazing visuals like the hero destroying a temple with his bare hands and a wave of energy radiating out across the lake..  It appeals to both a younger audience and the slightly older audience who have become fans from when the first movie came out in the series. there is an old scene from previous film that shows the humad base destroyed and deserted but you dont what's happened making you ant to find out.

The trailer also informs the audience of when the film is coming out so they can tell their friends, plan and buy advance tickets.

In the trailer, one of the methods that they use to create a lot of hype and excitement around the product is a single standalone line which is "Back to where it all began - back to the Matrix". This is the ending line in the trailer and really helps the trailer because it is an iconic theme from throughout the series of movies. this creates curiosity and mystery. The music for the trailer has a particular link to one of the scenes in the movie where NEO has to make a choice between the red pill and a blue pill. the music reflects this and the lyrics to the song actually talk about the pill. I think that this really helps to show the connection and ties the trailer together.

The special effects that have been used are very spectacular. There is more iconography in the SFX in that the text that the Matrix name and other text in the trailer have a glitched computer look to them, this is iconic to the Matrix franchise and again helps with the hype around the whole trailer. In the trailer, there are several scenes in which the entire scene is a CGI generated world this is very effective for drawing in the target audience it also means  that the trailer had a high budget because of the costs that are associated with building and creating such a large place in CGI.

His Dark Materials - TV Show Trailer

In the trailer for His Dark Materials, there are several different kinds of camera shots used. These are long cinematic shots to show off the landscape that the trailer is taking place in and also action shots to create interest.

The film being advertised through the trailer is based on a well-known best selling book. This means that fans of the books now have a trailer to watch about the books and the draws them in. This helps create excitement and hype about the trailer.

There are bold fonts in a shattered style used throughout the trailer. This helps the audience to link what is happening in the film, where the universe is split.   the music in the trailer is particularly effective because it matches the cutting of different scenes. This helps tie the trailer together.

There is a lot of CGI used in the movie trailer. The producers clearly had a large budget as it looks impressive and professional with famous film actors. Icons in the acting world.

There is one special item that is seen throughout the trailer - this is the Aethalometer. This is is a powerful symbol of the film series and the book, Using it shows the audience that the film is the same as the book and the originality of the books has been preserved.

Overall all I think that this trailer achieves its purpose which is to sell educate entertain and inform the product to the watcher . It does this very well through the use of clever camera work and different shot types and music that creates suspense. All of this helps a trailer be more exciting and appeal more to the audience.

BBC hippos circle - TV Ident

The BBC's hippo Ident is a simple yet effective way to fill a gap between two programs. The ident is film of hippos swimming in a circle filmed by a camera from below. I think this Ident is very clever as it is meant to be soothing and relaxing as they swim in a circle in a synchronised way. The images is also funny and allows the watcher to escape from the real world and the high pace dramas or programmes that they are watching and relax for a minute. Other idents they use are similar, relaxing and or funny, eg psychedelic CGI bubbles, dancers, and dog walkers, They have a similar look.

The ident is played to fill a gap and it has a voice over usual to tell the audience what programme is coming up next or if there is a breaking a live screening on the TV channel. The Ident is designed to be psychedelic and help the audience to concentrate on the ident and not the world around them. The ident has music in the background this helps to relax the watcher. Their is usually a voiceover telling the watcher what programs is coming up next or information about the show that they are watching.

Ed Sheeran Bad  Habits - music video

In the music video, Bad Habits by Ed Sheeran he is presented throughout the video as a vampire able to fly.

The camera during the music video follows Ed Sheeran around as he is singing and flying. This makes sure that the watcher/consumer always has a centerpiece to look at drawing in their eye to Ed Sheeran as he sings.. This creates an easier viewing experience as the video flows with the music and makes the song and its message the focus. The idea that Ed Sheeran's presenting throughout this music video is that everyone can be themselves, you do not have to conform to social and political boundaries (even vampires). There is a lot of weird stuff happening in the video showing that you can be anything you want. This creates a sense of freedom for the consumer and an all-around good music video.

The video is eye-catching because it uses lots of bright colours and weird scenes and has interesting camera movements. Ed Sheeran is doing lots of different impossible things and the viewer will want to watch the video again to see these increasing the likelihood of more people sharing it with their friends and therefore he makes more money. and is seen by a larger audience.

Altogether I think that this video is able to inform, interest and sell the product successfully.

COMPARE

All of the products that I have studied have been effective and able to work as successful promotional videos. They all look different but they also follow the same principles as each other. Some of the differences are the different mediums that the adverts are showed on, for example the Just Cause 4 trailer would have been shown on the web and probably nowhere else except for streaming services while the TV show would have been shown on live TV as well as the web and streaming services. This is because the trailer for the TV show can afford to be shown on multimedia devices and reach more people.

Another difference is the type of audience for the different products for example the James Bond film has a different target audience form the music video. They both have different groups of fans who will not necessarily like both the film and the music video because the James Bond fans are older and may never have heard of the Just Cause series of games so both of the products have different groups.Although the fact that both the game trailer and the film trailer have shooting and violence could unite these two groups of fans and they could both get the game trailer and watch the film.

They are aimed at different ages so they therefore have to accommodate the different ages of their target audience. Another difference is the type of shot e.g landscape or action shots. For example the game trailer has a lot of shooting and death a juxtaposition to this is the music video where there is no shooting or killing. The products have to be appropriate to the target audience. All of the promos are very effective. They are professionally made and they are targeted at specific audiences. This helps them to be more successful.

The three that I think are the most effective are the TV show advert as well as game trailer and the film trailer. I think this because they are the promotional videos that have the best use of colors and they are the most eye grabbing ads to look at and are therefore the most interesting to me out of the ones that I chose to research.
